My Middle School Daughter and Big Bird

I'm Yadkinriver's 8th grade daughter (really). This was my experience at school today.

I live in a very "hill-billy and proud" school district, and I am the only democrat in my school. Everyone knows this, since I got to get out of school for the democratic convention, (which promptly got cancelled :( because of weather that was set on making me sad) and everyone was jealous. Not to mention the debates I used to have with my libertarian farmer social studies teacher. Anyway, this morning as i walked into school, I expected some comments on how " Obama is gay" and " Romney whooped Obama's ass". But what i got instead of that in homeroom was " Did you hear, Romney's gonna kill Big Bird!?!?" My fellow 8th grade classmates were all in an uproar that Mitt was going to take down one of Sesame Streets most prominent characters. My classmates, who had not been this exited since they found out we were actually going to have a homecoming, were screeching up and down the hallways about Big Bird's upcoming demise.

People who had not normally been aware of the political climate, to the point at which I have been dubbed " the communist", and who would most definitely not watch a political event like the debate, knew about that horrible comment that would alter the sacred Sesame Street within 12 HOURS. This change in the student body's outlook on politics, all because Romney dare utter those words that chill an 8th grader's heart, was worth reporting.

(To their credit, they did end up electing me student body president last year. - to this day though, i'm still not sure if that was due to the fact that I was the only candidate with a speech, or my epic hair flip that i insisted doing at the end)
